Parent-Led, Therapist-Gudied CBT*
(*Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy)
|
In a Parent-Led CBT program, parents---in collaboration with a therapist--take the lead in helping their children acquire habits, skills & strategies for overcoming common childhood difficulties related to anxiety, self-esteem, ADHD, and situational stress. |
What is CBT? Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most widely used intervention for improving mental health. Based on an extensive body of empirical research, CBT focuses on the development of personal coping strategies to solve current problems and/or change unhelpful behavior patterns. CBT is effective with both children and adults.

Advantages of Parent-Led CBTIn traditional CBT with children, a therapist works directly with the child to help the child change unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviors and to develop a "tool kit" of personal coping strategies.
In parent-led CBT, the therapist works primarily (but not exclusively) with the parent. The therapist empowers the parent to be the primary person who teaches the child how to change unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviors and who helps the child to draw on their "coping strategies tool kit" in the midst of the challenges of their daily lives. Parent-led CBT isn't appropriate for every family, but when it is, it has a number of advantages over traditional CBT: |
